Twins May Be Out
The start of the second week of August has the Twins in a losing slide, dropping seven of their last 8...making just one win in August so far. This puts them 10 back from the division-leading Tigers, still in fourth place, also behind the Indians and White Sox.
The Twins record is 51-63, leaving just 48 games to be played (assuming they have to play the yet-unscheduled postponed game against the Yankees). They need to pull out 10 more wins than the other teams in our division have.
Since they're already 12 games under .500, this is looking more unlikely every day. Even if they do pull it off, they'll be the worst team to reach the division playoffs, strictly from a record standpoint. The club isn't playing great, from any reasonable standpoint. There are sparks, spurts, and starts, but they can't get enough steam to be impressive, even to this nearly die-hard fan.
I'll still go to the games. I'll still cheer them on. I'll still hope for wins.
I'm just not too worried about how going to Target Field for playoff games is going to affect my fall this year.
