University of Phoenix Annoys, Backs Off
Every few years I get an itch to complete my BS degree, probably pressing on to the next. Career-wise I'm pretty set, with a huge experience base to fall back on. Still, the only way to get an advanced degree is to get an undergraduate degree. I've got a slew of (really old) credits from my early college days, but I don't have time to sit in a classroom, even at night, so I was looking into a few of the out-of-classroom schools, including the University of Phoenix.
In an unfocused moment I gave them an actual cell phone (I have an e-mail voice mail service that I usually give when i don't really want to have calls bother me). They called many times a day, every day, despite (or perhaps because of) never getting through to me. They also never left a message. I found out the unknown number calling me was the UoP by Googling the number.
I finally re-visited their website, and took advantage of the "chat now" feature. I noted my problem to the (I assumed probably automated) avatar. The friendly real person on the other end asked for the number again and said "the record's been updated." Thanks. I was asked if there was more help I needed, I declined, and the chat went away. Whatever was done seems to have done the trick: no more calls.
Their program seems sound, and my goals would be satisfied with their offerings. There are gripes and praises both out there for them (and every other on-line school under consideration). Regardless, I think I'm going another direction.
The calls didn't have too much to do with my decision, but they were annoying while they lasted.
